These terms are the agreement between you and RipeSeed ("we", "us") for your use of Pillbean. By installing or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Pillbean is a reminder and record-keeping tool. It rings when you told it to, and it writes down what you tell it.
Pillbean does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. It has no opinion about whether a medicine, a dose, or a time is right for you. It does not check for drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, or dosing errors, and it will not stop you recording something unusual.
For anything about your medicine — starting, stopping, changing a dose, a reaction, a missed day that worries you — ask a doctor or pharmacist. If you feel unwell after a dose, contact them or your local emergency number straight away.
You must not rely on Pillbean as your only safeguard for taking medication. This matters, so here is plainly why.
The app schedules alarms through your phone's operating system, and whether an alarm actually reaches you depends on things outside our control: battery optimisation and power-saving modes, Do Not Disturb and focus settings, notification and alarm permissions, the device being switched off, out of battery, muted, restarted, or in a state where the manufacturer's software has stopped background apps. Some Android manufacturers restrict background apps far more aggressively than others.
The app does what it can — it uses exact alarms, escalates when a dose goes unanswered, and includes reliability checks and a self-test to warn you when the phone is configured in a way that will cause it to fail. But no phone app can promise an alarm will sound.
A missed reminder can happen. Keep whatever other safeguards your treatment needs.
You are responsible for the accuracy of the medicines, schedules, doses, and supply counts you enter, and for keeping them up to date when your treatment changes. The app records what you tell it — it cannot know that a prescription changed.
Exports, dose history, and the printable visit report are generated from your own entries. They are a record of what was logged in the app, not a clinical record, and they do not replace anything your prescriber or pharmacy holds.
How Pillbean handles your information is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: your record stays on your phone unless you choose to export it or turn on encrypted Drive backup.
If you turn on Drive backup, your passphrase cannot be recovered. The backup is encrypted on your device with a key derived from a passphrase we never receive and do not store. Neither we nor Google can open it or reset it. If you lose the passphrase, the backup cannot be restored — by anyone, including us.
Keeping your own copies of anything you need is your responsibility. We are not able to recover a record that is lost because a device was lost, wiped, or replaced, or because a passphrase was forgotten.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Pillbean on devices you own or control, for your own use and for people whose medication you help manage. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile, redistribute, resell, or create derivative works from the app, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
Pillbean is free to use, and the free version is not a trial and does not expire. Unlimited medicines, every alarm and escalation, the full dose record, CSV export, and the reliability self-test are all free, permanently.
The printable visit report, more complex schedules and tapers, and additional profiles are unlocked by either of two purchases. Both unlock exactly the same features:
The monthly subscription may be offered with a free trial to people who have not subscribed to it before. Where it is offered, Google Play shows you the length of the trial and the price that follows it before you confirm anything. A free trial becomes a paid, auto-renewing subscription when it ends, unless you cancel before then — cancelling during the trial costs nothing.
You cancel a subscription or a trial in Google Play, not in Pillbean: Play Store › your profile › Payments and subscriptions › Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next charge and leaves the paid features unlocked until the period you have already paid for runs out.
We may update the app, change or discontinue features, or stop distributing it. We will not push an update that deletes your existing record. Your device continues to hold your data whether or not the app is updated.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pillbean is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any reminder will be delivered at any particular time, or at all.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use Pillbean — including any missed, late, duplicated, or unheard reminder, and any consequence of a dose taken, missed, or repeated.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability to you is limited to the amount you actually paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim arose, or, if you have made no purchase, to zero.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that applicable consumer protection law does not permit us to exclude. If you are a consumer, you keep every right that the law of your country of residence gives you.
You may stop using Pillbean at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your licence if you materially breach these terms — for example by tampering with or redistributing the app. Sections 3, 4, 8, and 9 survive the end of this agreement.
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Pillbean after that means you accept the updated terms.
